An insinuating smile will, invite us in then we will follow a face winking at us. When we want to touch it, it will disappear or transform into a toothpaste. But we will not be able to go out … because María Victoria will sing for us, Tongolele will dance, Marlon Brando will take off his shirt … and there will be nothing more to follow through the corridors of eroticism.
In “Eroticism, the intimate life of objects”, we ask objects what they can tell us about ourselves, our desires and the stories that pump our blood. Eroticism is a pursuit of desires, it is sexuality when starts dreaming artistically. It is distinguished from pornography because it is not the explicit representation of sex, but a path that makes a fanciful detour.
May the road be long! To give us time to walk through erotic Mexican art, through advertising that has always used the same resources to sell us different things, through cinema and across bedrooms that keep their own secrets and trough the shows in which we spend countless nights…
As Eros has changed us over centuries, the exhibition includes a long timeline, because it has not been easy to reach the freedom we enjoy today. Unfortunately, there is another path in which we are immersed: that of prejudice and intolerance. But since the road is long and has more than two ways, we all fit in. This exhibition is an excuse to speak and foster tolerance and imagination.
The exhibition was presented from April 20 to August 28, 2016.
