An exhibition that digs deep into the MODO collection, to revise products and objects related to beauty, selfcare, personal image and even fashion. Through five sections that explore face, body, hair, image and clothing, it sparks reflection on beauty standards at different times and the assumptions that these standards make.
In each of the five sections, an iconic object was presented to refer to a specific place where the body, face or hair are embellished, adorned, transformed. The bathroom, the beauty salon, the barbershop, the hat shop, are places where it is possible to arrive looking one way and exit with a completely different look.
Traditional museology seeks to raise more questions than it answers, questions that are not evident, but are induced in a veiled way as the exhibition unfolds. In this case, we decided to modify that format by making the questions evident, by placing them on the walls, urging the viewer to get involved and to reflect on the condition of his or her own image, style and beauty precepts.
Rethinking the ideal, detecting how the beauty standard has been modified and influenced by a consumer market that offers everything from the perfect lip color to the cream of eternal youth, were all part of the goals of this exhibition that seeks to transform appearance into experience.
The exhibition was presented from July 9 to November 11, 2014.
